Apple could speed up production with 3D printing, launch a redesigned Magic Keyboard for iPad

Apple has finally decided to switch from the Lightning charging port to USB-C on its iPhones. This change has been delayed for years, but it is finally happening.

At its upcoming iPhone 15 event, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported that Apple is also planning to use 3D printers to improve device production.

Additionally, the company is working on a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad that will be more like a laptop keyboard. Apple is also finishing up work on iOS 17.

Apple’s Transition to USB-C Charging

Apple is making a significant change by switching from Lightning to USB-C ports for its iPhones. This shift will allow users to use a single charging cable for iPhones, Macs, and iPads, making it more convenient.

It will also bring faster data transfer speeds and compatibility with non-Apple chargers. Mark Gurman has reported that the new iPhone will come with a USB-C cable. Apple has been promoting wireless charging options such as MagSafe for some time now.

To ensure a smooth transition, Apple will provide enough adapters to convert Lightning to USB-C. However, even with the inclusion of a USB-C cord, users will still need to obtain a compatible charging brick separately, as it is unlikely to be included in the package.

3D Printing for Device Production

Apple is exploring 3D printing technology to speed up device production and reduce waste. By 3D printing device enclosures, Apple can use high-end metals like stainless steel and titanium more efficiently, starting with the Apple Watch Series 9 and potentially expanding to iPhones and iPads in the future.

Redesigned Magic Keyboard for iPad

Apple is planning to release a revamped Magic Keyboard for the iPad. This new accessory will have a larger trackpad and an aluminum top case, giving it a premium feel and sturdier structure. The exterior shell will retain the current cover material, and it will feature a USB-C port.

Possibility of a 14-Inch iPad

While Apple had considered launching a 14-inch iPad, it seems that such a product is not currently in their immediate plans. The transition to OLED displays posed challenges due to higher costs. The first iPad Pro models with larger screens are expected to top out at 13 inches in 2024.

iOS 17 Development

Apple is nearing the completion of iOS 17, with the release of multiple beta versions. The software is being finalized for the upcoming iPhone 15 models. iPadOS 17.0 is also expected to launch simultaneously with iOS 17.0, indicating a shift from previous release schedules.
