Xbox September update brings Discord streaming, variable refresh rate, and more

Microsoft is rolling out a new Xbox update this September with several exciting features to enhance your gaming experience. Here’s a quick rundown of new features:

Stream Games to Discord

Starting this week, you can easily share your Xbox gameplay with your Discord friends. Just link your Discord account, join voice channels from your Xbox, and click “Stream your game” to let your friends watch you play.

Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for Xbox Series X|S

VRR adapts your screen’s refresh rate to match your game’s frame rate, ensuring a smoother gaming experience. Now, you can control when VRR is active on your Xbox Series X or Series S by going to General > TV & display options > Video.

Easier Access to Rewards

Finding your Xbox Rewards is now simpler with the new Rewards tab. Access it by pressing the Xbox button, selecting Profile & system, and then My Rewards. You can also redeem rewards directly from this tab.

Ask to Join a Friend’s Game

Before joining your friend’s gaming session, you can now request an invitation. Visit your friend’s profile and select “Ask to join game” to send a request.

Xbox Voice Reporting

Microsoft is committed to creating a safer gaming environment. You can now capture and report inappropriate in-game voice chats with a 60-second video clip. This feature supports thousands of games and is available in select English-language markets.

Wish List Notifications in Microsoft Store

Receive notifications when games on your wish list become available for pre-order or join Game Pass. Customize these notifications in Settings > Preferences > Store notifications.

Pair Accessories Easily

Pair new accessories to your Xbox console effortlessly through the Xbox Accessories app’s “Connect a Device” option.

PC Gaming Updates

The Xbox app on PC now boasts faster performance and additional features. Enjoy quicker access to game details, new fonts, button styles, and animations. There are also improvements to your Library and Installation queue, making game management more convenient.

Game Launch Countdown

Track game release times accurately with the game launch countdown, now available on a game’s details page. Celebrate Bethesda’s Starfield with a new key art on the Xbox app’s launch screen.
