Microsoft has introduced an exciting feature in the Paint app, making it easier to remove backgrounds from your images. This update, similar to Photoshop’s functionality, allows you to quickly eliminate the background of any image with just one click.
Microsoft has been diligently updating the Windows Paint app in recent months, including the addition of a dark mode in the last update.
How It Works: Background Removal in Paint
With the background removal tool, you can effortlessly eliminate the background from any image in one click, leaving a clean cutout of the subject. It can identify the subject across the entire canvas or from a specific selection made with the selection tool.
- Paste or import your image onto the canvas.
- Click the new “remove background” button in the toolbar.
- Watch as the background disappears from your entire image.
- Alternatively, use the rectangle select tool to specify which area you want to remove the background from.
Availability
The background removal feature in Paint (version 11.2306.30.0) app is now rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels, and is expected to roll out for the stable channel in the coming weeks.

With just a single click, you can automatically remove the background from any image, leaving a smooth cutout of the subject.
Please be aware that an earlier version of this update (version 11.2306.28.0) was released earlier today and it contains a bug where a confidentiality banner is displayed. However, we have addressed this issue in the latest update (version 11.2306.30.0). We appreciate your understanding and patience.
