Apple has announced the iPhone 15, the company’s latest iPhone, and the successor of iPhone 14 along with the iPhone 15 Plus both with the Dynamic Island, as expected. However, these retain the same A16 bionic processor from the iPhone 14 Pro series.
The iPhone 15 and the 15 Plus come with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED Super Retina XDR displays with up to 2000 nits peak brightness, respectively, with 60Hz refresh rate. These retain the Ceramic Shield protection that was introduced in the iPhone 12. These finally get the Dynamic Island that was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series.
The phones feature a new 48MP main camera with a quad-pixel sensor that combines every four pixels into one large quad pixel equivalent to 2.44 µm at 12MP and has sensor-shift optical image stabilization. The quad-pixel sensor also enables a 2x Telephoto option that uses the middle 12 megapixels of the sensor for full-resolution photos and 4K videos with no digital zoom. There is 12MP Ultra Wide camera.
It gets a new auto portrait mode, so you don’t have to switch to portrait mode. You can switch focus from one subject to another after a photo is taken. The iPhone 15 line-up also includes Emergency SOS via satellite, which is free for 2 years.
For the first time in a smartphone, color is infused throughout the back glass that is strengthened with an optimized dual-ion exchange process before being polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious, textured matte finish, said Apple.
A new contoured edge on the aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure feels even nicer in users’ hands, and the Ceramic Shield front cover continues to be tougher than any other smartphone glass.
Finally, the iPhone 15 series now come with a USB-C port, replacing the lightning port. It still has a MagSafe wireless charging support.
