Spotify adds AI-powered Voice Translation for podcasts

Spotify has introduced a new feature called Voice Translation for podcasts. This tool uses AI technology, including OpenAI’s voice generation, to convert podcasts into different languages while keeping the original podcaster’s voice style.

This means that a podcast originally in English can now be enjoyed in other languages without losing the unique way the host speaks.

Collaboration with Well-known Podcasters

To test this feature, Spotify teamed up with popular podcasters like Dax Shepard, Monica Padman, Lex Fridman, Bill Simmons, and Steven Bartlett. They used AI to translate episodes into Spanish, French, and German, among others.

Spotify plans to expand this to more shows, including Dax Shepard’s “eff won with DRS,” “The Rewatchables” from The Ringer, and Trevor Noah’s upcoming podcast.

Availability

These voice-translated episodes will be accessible to both Premium and Free Spotify users worldwide. Initially, Spanish translations will be available, with French and German versions coming soon.

Users can find these translated episodes in the Now Playing View, or visit the dedicated Voice Translations Hub for more.

Speaking at the announcement, Ziad Sultan, VP of Personalization, Spotify, said:

Voice Translation empowers listeners worldwide to discover and be inspired by new podcasters in a truly authentic manner by preserving the creator’s unique voice. We firmly believe that a considerate application of AI can foster deeper connections between listeners and creators, aligning with Spotify’s mission to unleash the boundless potential of human creativity.
