Raspberry Foundation, the organization behind the highly popular single board computers, the Raspberry Pi series, has announced the latest update to the model, the Raspberry Pi 5. This is a direct sequel to the Raspberry Pi 4, which was launched back in June 2019.
Raspberry Pi 5 has an upgraded 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz which the company claims provides a 2-3 times performance boost over the Pi 4. The GPU has also been upgraded to an 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU for a “substantial uplift” in performance. The Pi 5 also features an in-house silicon named “Southbridge” contributing to a host of supercharged I/O Peripheral Capabilities.

Pricing and availability
Compared to its predecessor, the Pi 5 has a USD 5 price increase for its base 4GB variant, starting at USD 60 (Approximately INR 4,990). The 8GB variant, on the other hand, costs USD 80 (Approximately INR 6655). The company says that virtually every single aspect of the platform has been upgraded for the latest version.
Alongside the PC, a few accessories have also been launched to complement it. This includes a Case, an Active Cooler, and a 27W USB-C Power Supply. Raspberry Pi Foundation says that the pre-orders for the Raspberry Pi 5 start today and the first shipments are expected to go out by the end of October 2023.
Shipments will be limited to one per person at least until the end of the year, but the company is prioritizing their print magazines subscribers ‘The MagPi’ and ‘HackSpace’ who will get a single-use code to purchase the Raspberry Pi 5.
