In an interview with the Unbox Therapy, Pete Lau, OnePlus founder revealed a lot of details about the OnePlus’ foldable phone – OnePlus Open. He said that the company holds over 600 patents for the hinge design in a foldable, and for the OnePlus foldable phone, it has 35 patents related to the hinge.
He said that compared to the hinge on the OPPO Find N2, the hinge on the OnePlus foldable has 31 components less, making it lighter, and it is 37% smaller than the Find N2. With the improved material, the strength has also improved.
The OnePlus foldable phone still has an alert slider on the left, and there is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded into the power button, below the volume rockers on the right.
The speakers are on the bottom and the top. The USB Type-C Port and the SIM slot are on the bottom, and the secondary microphone is on the top. You can also see the antenna bands on the metal frame.
The CEO said that the company is working with Google for optimizing the apps for the foldable phone.
He confirmed that the OnePlus folding phone is jointly developed by the OPPO team and the OnePlus team, since they want to create a synergy and bring the best of the two teams together because both teams have accumulated strong experience.
OPPO team’s experience in the foldable design and in the camera technologies, and OnePlus’ fast and smooth experience, the burdenless design, and the peak performance of the hardware combines to create the OnePlus folding phone.
He added that the company will have a different strategy for different regions so that more users will be able to have their hands on this device. As rumoured earlier, it looks like the company is not planning to release the OPPO Find N3 widely, and release OnePlus Open in more markets, including India.
A few days back, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was spotted using the OnePlus Open last week ahead of the launch, revealing the camera design which we had seen in renders earlier.
Based on earlier rumours, the OnePlus Open will launch on October 19th, and we should get the official details in a few days. OPPO should also introduce the Find N3 in China sometime later this month.
