Google has released the Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 update for supported devices, in preparation for the December Feature Drop release. This update comes after the October Pixel Feature Drop.
Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2
Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 (U1B2.230922.006) comes with bug fixes and improvements, including enhanced performance and October 2023 security patch. Some of the fixes include:
- Resolving an issue that caused the Settings app to crash when users accessed Bluetooth settings after pairing a device.
- Fixing a problem on certain devices where the scrolling animation was not smooth.
- Addressing various issues that affected system stability and performance.
Here are some notable changes and features in Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 shared by Mishaal Rahman:
- Google has redesigned the system update page with a new look specifically for Pixel devices. It provides information on the status of your OS, Mainline version, and Pixel system apps.
- In the Personal Safety app of Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2, you can now add your height, weight, and pregnancy status. This information is synced across paired devices under the same Google Account and is end-to-end encrypted.
- Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 includes the Weather app from the Pixel 8, allowing weather information to be displayed in the Google Clock app and the “World” clock widget.
- The aspect ratio settings are now labeled as experimental or labs, with a warning that some apps may not be optimized for certain aspect ratios.
- The “continue using apps on fold” option for the Pixel Fold has been hidden, but it still exists in the build.
- Enabling screen protector mode in Settings > Display will now provide a notification when it’s active.
- Google is working on a Pixel Troubleshooting app to help users diagnose battery and network issues.
- There’s a new battery diagnostics page under Settings > Battery, which is part of the Pixel Troubleshooting app.
- Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 is preparing to introduce a feature that lets you sync app permissions between your phone and connected Bluetooth devices.
Availability
To get Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2, you can enroll your eligible Pixel device. Compatible devices include Pixel 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet series devices.
Eligible devices will receive automatic over-the-air updates, while others can download the update from the Android Developer’s site.
Note: Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 devices have already received Android 14 stable update. These are not eligible for Android 14 QPR1 Beta updates.
