Google Pixel 8 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions


Google launched the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone globally and in India last week. The Pixel 8 Pro looks almost similar to the 7 Pro on the front, but comes with a new Tensor G3 SoC, and has upgraded cameras. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

The phone has a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ OLED LTPO screen with 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, and has up to 2400 nits brightness, making it 60% brighter than the predecessor. The screen is bright, and the viewing angles are good. It has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.

 

There is a centre punch-hole display that houses an 10.8MP camera with support for 4K 60 fps video recording, and it now has autofocus. The earpiece on the top doubles up as the secondary speaker. The front camera also works for face unlock.

You can also see the tiny bottom bezel, but the bezels on the sides and the top are minimal. It runs Android 14. The company has promised 7 years of OS updates, feature drop and security updates for the phone for the first time.

It has the Google Tensor G3 SoC along with Titan M2 security chip. This is  faster than the first gen, and the performance is good.

The phone has a polished aluminium frame, so this attracts fingerprints. You can see the antenna bands around the phone. The power button and volume rockers are present on the right side. The single SIM slot is present on the left side, and the phone has eSIM support. The phone has 5G support. The USB Type-C port, microphone and speaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is present on the top.

The phone has a metal camera bar with a matte finish. This has a 50MP main camera with f/1.68 aperture and OIS. There is a secondary 48MP 125° Ultra-wide camera with f/1.95 aperture which is an autofocus camera with macro option. There is a 48MP telephoto camera with support for 5x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. This time, the company has added a temperature sensor, which is present on the camera bar.

It has up to 4K 60 fps video recording for the front and rear cameras. There are new Best Take, Magic Editor and Audio Magic Eraser features. Video Boost on Pixel 8 Pro uses Tensor G3 and the power of Google data centers that uses computational photography models in the cloud for HDR+ video a reality.

This has a glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The phone also has IP68 ratings for water resistance. The phone packs a 5,050mAh battery with up to 30W wired fast charging and also has 23W wireless charging.

The Pixel 8 Pro also comes in Obsidian colour, in addition to Bay. It is already available for pre-order from Flipkart for Rs. 1,06,999 (MRP), and will go on sale from tomorrow, October 12th.
