HP Omen 16 (AMD) 2023 Review

HP’s Omen laptops have long been synonymous with high-octane gaming performance and minimalistic yet striking design. As gaming enthusiasts demand more from their hardware, HP has risen, consistently pushing the boundaries of what a gaming laptop can offer.

HP introduced its next-gen gaming laptop — Omen 16, in India at Rs. 1,34,999, loaded with AMD Ryzen 7 series chipset, 16GB RAM, and the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. Is it worth it?

The Omen 16 boasts a redesigned look with notable design elements like a rear trunk for exhaust and ports. The company has placed the vents on the right, left, and rear sides to improve the airflow compared to its successor.

In terms of connectivity, the Omen 16 comes with

  • 2 -Thunderbolt 4 ports
  • 2 – USB-A (3.2) ports
  • 1 – HDMI 2.1 port,
  • Gigabit Ethernet port
  • 3.5mm headphone jack

The laptop measures 36.90 x 25.94 x 2.39 cm and weighs around 2.32kg. The Omen 16 gets a matte black treatment with a brushed metallic finish, giving it an elegant look. The laptop boasts a full-sized keyboard with chiclet-style keycaps and a spacious trackpad, providing excellent feedback. The keyboard’s RGB lighting is customisable through the Omen app.

The HP Omen houses a 16.1-inch FHD (1920×1080) 165Hz display with a brightness of 300 nits. The display could be more extraordinary but sharp, bright, and colorful enough. The anti-glare coating enhances viewing comfort and reduces glare.

The laptop has front-facing dual speakers that ensure clear audio, even when resting on a flat surface. There’s an additional grille located between the keyboard and the screen, primarily designed for thermal management rather than improving audio quality.

Although the stereo speakers provide reasonable audio, fan noise during intense gaming sessions can somewhat impede the overall sound quality.

Powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and equipped with a high TGP RTX 4060 GPU, the HP Omen 16 delivers impressive performance. As expected, the Omen 16 excels in everyday tasks, demonstrating its ability to manage various demands easily.

Whether juggling Chrome, video streaming, or gaming, the Omen 16 remains unfazed by these tasks.

When it comes to gaming, HP’s Omen 16 offering stands out as a robust contender.

Its prowess is evident in its ability to handle a range of demanding titles, including the graphically intensive God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Uncharted.

Omen 16’s powerful package ensured smooth gameplay even at a max settings without a hitch.

Moreover, the laptop’s cooling system maintained optimal temperatures even during extended gaming sessions (except for the fan’s noise), preventing overheating and ensuring sustained performance.

However, continuous fan noise may affect the sound experience during intense gameplay.

Historically, gaming laptops were never better regarding the battery department.

The laptop’s high performance can place significant stress on the battery, often resulting in a limited runtime of just three hours on average. I got around just about 4 hours of battery life, which is decent enough for a gaming laptop.

The HP Omen 16 (2023) excels in the most critical areas, delivering outstanding gaming performance and a seamless day-to-day user experience.

Nonetheless, it has drawbacks, notably a reduced battery lifespan when tackling resource-intensive tasks. With its impressive specifications, this laptop emerges as a champion for those seeking a gaming laptop that doesn’t strain their budget.

It’s a clear winner for those who want an exceptional gaming experience without emptying their wallet.

The The OMEN 16 2023 lineup starts at Rs. 1,04,999, and the model that we have costs Rs. 1,34,999. It is available from leading Commercial PC channel partners, HP Omen stores, and other online and offline retailers.
