At the Google for India event at Pragati Maidan, Google revealed its plan to produce the latest Pixel series premium smartphones in India. The production will start with the Pixel 8, and the first Indian-made devices are expected to be available in 2024.
Local Production Partnerships
Google will collaborate with both international and domestic manufacturers in India to locally produce Pixel smartphones. The company considers India a top priority for Pixel smartphones due to their increasing popularity in the country over the years. This step marks the beginning of their journey to expand device production capacity and meet the growing demand for Pixel in India.
Expanding Service Network
In addition to manufacturing, Google has been enhancing the Pixel smartphone experience and expanding its service network across the nation. Teaming up with F1 Info Solutions, Google now has 28 service centers in 27 cities throughout India, with plans to extend their coverage to more locations and cities in the coming months.
Joining the ‘Make in India’ Initiative
India has become a thriving hub for manufacturing, offering an excellent environment for businesses to grow. With this initiative, Google joins the ‘Make in India’ movement and aims to make Pixel smartphones more accessible to people all across India.
Speaking at the event, Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices & Services, said:
We’re deeply grateful for the warm embrace of our consistent smartphone innovations by India and the heartening feedback from our partners and our growing #TeamPixel community. From the outset of our hardware venture, our commitment has been long-term, and our decision to manufacture in India marks the early steps in our journey to expand device production capacity and meet the increasing demand for Pixel smartphones in the country. We anticipate sharing more information in the upcoming months and eagerly anticipate introducing the enchantment of Pixel smartphones to a wider audience across the nation.
