New Macs this October; next-gen iPads in March 2024: Report

Apple is planning to introduce new iPad models in March 2024, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These updates will likely include the 11th-generation iPad, seventh-generation iPad Mini, and sixth-generation iPad Air. There’s a possibility of a new iPad Pro, but it’s less certain.

Changes to Apple Pencil and iPad Lineup

Gurman anticipates that Apple may discontinue the first-generation Apple Pencil along with the ninth-generation iPad. This is because future iPads from Apple won’t have a Lightning connector, and the first-gen Pencil uses this connector. However, this change won’t happen immediately.

New Macs Expected This Month

Apple is gearing up for a Mac-focused product launch by the end of the current month. This event might include the release of a refreshed 24-inch iMac model.

This move comes in response to the high demand and limited availability of iMacs and MacBook Pros at both online and retail stores, as observed by Gurman.

The current 24-inch iMac, powered by the M1 chip, is due for an update. Gurman believes that the new iMac will feature the M3 chip, but he hasn’t confirmed this information.

Mac Updates and Release Dates

Gurman suggests that the new Macs might be announced on October 30 or 31, followed by Apple’s earnings call on November 2. While these Macs are expected to feature new processors, major design changes aren’t likely. There might be some minor improvements to their displays.

Rumors also point to next-generation MacBook Air models with M3 chips coming in early 2024. Additionally, a larger ‘pro’ version of the iMac with a 32-inch display and a new design is expected sometime in late 2024 or 2025.
