SK hynix has officially commenced the commercialization of LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo), the world’s fastest mobile DRAM, boasting a remarkable speed of 9.6Gbps. This comes after the initial development of the DRAM, which began in January 2023.
What sets this achievement apart is that SK hynix has received validation confirming the LPDDR5T’s compatibility with Qualcomm Technologies’ latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, making it the first product of its kind to gain such recognition from Qualcomm.
The “T” in the moniker stands for “Turbo,” and the DRAM operates at a data rate of 9.6 GB/s, which is 13% faster than the previous generation of LPDDR5X, which provides 8.5 GB/s.
SK hynix plans to offer a 16GB-capacity product, achieved by combining multiple individual LPDDR5T chips, resulting in an astounding data processing speed of 77GB per second. This is equivalent to processing 15 Full-HD movies in just one second.
Moreover, the LPDDR5T product excels in power efficiency, operating at the lowest voltage within the range of 1.01 to 1.12V standards set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC).
The company has leveraged the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process to enhance both speed and power efficiency, positioning the LPDDR5T to capture a significant market share before the introduction of the next-generation LPDDR6.
Availability
Through rigorous validation with Qualcomm and other leading mobile Application Processor (AP) providers, SK hynix anticipates a swift adoption of the LPDDR5T.
