Qualcomm introduced its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile platform at its Snapdragon Summit 2023 yesterday. The latest flagship SoC has a new 1+5+2 microarchitecture that uses 1 x Kryo Prime Arm Cortex-X4-based CPU at up to 3.3GHz, 5 x Kryo Performance CPUs that has 3 x A720-based CPUs at up to 3.2GHz and 2 x A720-based CPUs at up to 3.0GHz and 4x Kryo Efficiency A520-based CPUs at up to 2.3GHz.
This promises 30% performance and 20% power efficiency improvements for the CPU, and the Adreno GPU promises 25% performance and 25% power efficiency improvements. It has 98% improved AI performance and 40% better performance per watt.
It is fabricated using the TSMC 4nm Process Technology. We got to check out the smartphone at the event, and here are the official benchmark scores.
It supports full suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features and new hardware accelerated ray tracing with global illumination.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reference device has a 6.65″ FHD+ 144Hz AMOLED screen, 16GB LPDDR5x RAM, 512GB UFS 4.0 storage and a 4192mAh battery. Here is the benchmark comparison. The values are provided by Qualcomm, and the final scores are an average from three iterations.
AnTuTu Benchmark 10
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tops the AnTuTu 10 benchmark clocking, 2134955 or 2.13 million points. This beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered iQOO 11’s score, according to our test earlier this year. The vivo X90 Pro powered by Dimensity 9200 scores 1500091 points. Based on recent reports, Dimensity 9300 scores 2.05 million points on AnTuTu.
Geekbench 6 Single-Core
Score from the iPhone 15 Pro Max powered by Apple A17 Pro and the iPhone 15 Plus powered by A16 Bionic are better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Geekbench 5 Single-Core CPU benchmark, but compared to other Android phones, this is better.
Geekbench 6 Multi-Core
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tops the Geekbench 6 Multi-Core CPU benchmark chart, beating the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 15 Pluse is behind it. The flagship Snapdragon chip is way ahead of the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.
Here are the values from other benchmarks shared by Qualcomm
- GFXBench Aztec Ruins Vulkan (Higher Tier) Offscreen 5.0 (1440p) – 93 – 96 fps
- GFXBench Aztec Ruins Vulkan (Normal Tier) Offscreen 5.0 (1080p) – 238 – 241 fps
- GFXBench Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High Tier) Offscreen 5.0 (1440p) – 82 – 83 fps
- 3Dmark WildLife Extreme – 32 fps
- 3Dmark WildLife – 114 – 115 fps
- 3Dmark Solar Bay – 32- 33 fps
- AIMark 3.0– 238K – 240K
- AITuTu 3.0 – 142K – 145K
These values of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 are way better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and it also beats the Apple 17 Pro in Geekbench 6 Multi-Core benchmarks as well as several GPU benchmarks, since Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 already has good GPU performance.
Qualcomm already confirmed that devices based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will start rolling out starting with the Xiaomi 14 series this week, followed by iQOO 12 in November.
The realme GT5 Pro, vivo X100, next Find X series (Find X7 Pro), nubia REDMAGIC, ZTE, ASUS Zenfone, ROG Phones and more will be powered by the flagship Snapdragon chip in the coming months.
