Apple ‘Scary fast’ event: M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max Mac Chips expected

Apple is all set to reveal some exciting new products at its upcoming event, known as ‘Scary Fast’ on October 30th. Additionally, there will be significant updates to the high-end MacBook Pros and the first iMac update since spring 2021.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is going to introduce three new Mac chips – the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max, along with a transition to more advanced 3-nanometer production technology.

Three New Mac M3 Chips

The M3 chip line promises a significant improvement over the previous M2. It brings much faster speeds and enhanced efficiency to extend the battery life of notebooks.

Apple’s new MacBook Pro models with M2 chips were launched in January, and the new M3 versions are arriving less than ten months later due to a previous release delay.

Announcing three new chips simultaneously is quite a feat, especially when they are based on 3-nanometer technology. Mark Gurman noted that other manufacturers have faced difficulties obtaining chips made using this advanced technique.

Mark Gurman offers insights into the three new components:

M3 Chip:
  • Eight cores, with four for high-performance tasks and four for background functions.
  • Enhanced memory configurations and faster core performance compared to the M2.
M3 Pro:
  • Tested in various configurations, including 12 CPU cores and 18 graphics cores.
  • Higher-end versions are expected to have 14 CPU cores and 20 graphics cores.
M3 Max:
  • Tested with 16 CPU cores and a remarkable 40 graphics cores.
  • A less powerful version with 32 graphics cores.
iMac Gets an Upgrade

The iMac has been using the M1 chip, and this event will bring a much-needed update, helping it regain its position in Apple’s lineup. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the iMac.

Apple’s Scary Fast Event Focus

Mark Gurman suggests that this event won’t be as attention-grabbing as an iPhone or Apple Watch launch. It will likely focus on technical details about chip speeds and innovations on the inside, with no major changes to the external designs of the computers.

The event starts at 5PM PT on October 30th (5:30 AM IST on October 31st), and will be streamed live on its website, on YouTube, and through the Apple TV app.
