Apple’s next watch to include Hypertension, Sleep apnea detection: Report

Mark Gurman’s report for Bloomberg sheds light on Apple’s forthcoming health-oriented features for the Apple Watch in 2024. These developments aim to enhance the device’s health monitoring capabilities and introduce a paid health service.

Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:

Blood Pressure Sensing

Apple is working on integrating a new sensor to detect elevated blood pressure in users. While the initial system won’t provide exact systolic and diastolic measurements, a subsequent version is in the works to offer more detailed information.

Additionally, users will be able to maintain a blood pressure journal to record relevant information about hypertensive episodes.

Sleep Apnea Detection

Another significant addition is a system designed to detect sleep apnea. The Apple Watch will continuously monitor a person’s sleep patterns and breathing to predict the presence of this condition. If it detects potential issues, the accompanying app will recommend that users seek medical advice.

Redesigned Apple Watch

Apple is set to release an updated version of the Apple Watch in 2024, featuring a refreshed design to accommodate these new health-related features. Gurman noted that this revamp will coincide with the introduction of various other health-oriented functionalities.

AirPods as Hearing Aids

Building upon previous reports, Apple plans to expand the functionality of its AirPods, effectively turning them into over-the-counter hearing aids.

Leveraging the popularity of its wireless earbuds, the company is making strides to establish a presence in the growing hearing-aids market. Moreover, Apple is working on new features that will enable users to assess their hearing.

Paid Health Coaching Service

Following the report earlier this year, Apple is currently continuing to develop a digital, paid health coaching service. This service will utilize artificial intelligence and data collected from user devices to create personalized workout and dietary plans for customers.

In addition to the enhancements for the Apple Watch and AirPods, the tech giant is exploring the integration of antianxiety and workout features for its upcoming Vision Pro headset, as he added.
