Valve has introduced an upgraded version of its handheld gaming device, the Steam Deck, called the Steam Deck OLED. The key enhancement is the switch from an LCD to a 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display, offering a 7.4-inch 90Hz screen with 1,000-nit brightness, an improvement over the original 7-inch LCD.
The updated Steam Deck boasts an AMD “6nm APU” (compared to the original 7nm APU), featuring a Zen 2-based 4-core/8-thread configuration with RDNA2 graphics. The OLED version is 640g (30g) lighter than its LCD counterpart and comes with a 45W power supply, a 2.5m cable, and a bundled carrying case.
It also includes upgraded features like Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, an improved haptic system, and a larger 50 Whr battery, promising 3–12 hours of gameplay – a 30-50% increase from the LCD models.
Valve is additionally launching a limited-edition 1 TB Steam Deck OLED model exclusively in the US and Canada. This special edition includes a transparent shell, an exclusive carrying case with unique artwork, and a cooler system.
