Microsoft rebrands Bing Chat to ‘Copilot’ with global expansion

Microsoft has introduced Copilot, formerly Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise, which is now available at copilot.microsoft.com. This dedicated platform offers users a unique chat experience, while Bing.com remains an option for those seeking a combined search and chat interface.

Enhanced Capabilities with OpenAI GPTs

Microsoft enhances Copilot’s power, versatility, and creativity by announcing support for OpenAI GPTs. This integration allows users to create customized versions of Copilot for specific tasks, providing tailored experiences for both citizen and professional developers.

General Availability of Copilot with Commercial Data Protection

Starting December 1, Copilot with commercial data protection will be generally available. This feature ensures that prompts and responses are not saved, providing users with privacy and security.

Copilot is built on the latest OpenAI models, including GPT-4 and DALL-E 3, offering unified text and image generation capabilities. Copilot with commercial data protection will be accessible with the following licenses:

  • Microsoft 365 E3, E5
  • Microsoft 365 F3 (coming soon)
  • Microsoft 365 A3, A5 (Faculty only)
  • Business Standard
  • Business Premium

Eligibility for Microsoft 365 F3 for frontline workers begins soon, with plans to include additional Entra users over time.

Security Measures with Microsoft Edge for Business

Microsoft Edge for Business complements Copilot by enforcing document and website sensitivity labels through Microsoft Purview data loss prevention (DLP). This ensures that sensitive content remains protected, allowing Copilot access only when explicitly permitted by IT administrators.

Preview of Copilot Plugins

Microsoft introduces plugin support for Copilot, enabling developers to enhance its capabilities. These plugins, based on the OpenAI schema, work seamlessly across various Microsoft platforms, including Bing, Edge, Windows, and Microsoft 365 apps.

Developers will soon have the ability to publish their plugins through Microsoft Partner Center, expanding their reach to millions of users.

Getting Started with Copilot: Commercial Data Protection

Organizations can enable Copilot and encourage employees to try it at Copilot.microsoft.com. Microsoft provides an adoption kit, including a name change template, to facilitate seamless AI integration.

Microsoft encourages exploration of Copilot for Microsoft 365, available since November 1.
