Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola, introduced Krutrim AI, a groundbreaking project focused on developing India’s first full-stack AI solution. The initiative emphasizes leveraging Indian knowledge, languages, and data.
Two Models: Krutrim and Krutrim Pro
Krutrim AI, founded in April 2023 by Aggarwal and Krishnamurthy Venugopala Tenneti, introduces two models: Krutrim and Krutrim Pro. The base model, Krutrim, comprehends 22 languages and generates text in 10 Indian languages. Krutrim Pro, designed for advanced problem-solving, will be released in the next quarter.
The company claims that Krutrim AI, trained on 20 times more Indic tokens than any other model, outperforms GPT-4 and Llama models in terms of Indic performance. The AI can process voice inputs and respond in voice, offering a unique interactive experience.
Cultural Relevance and Custom Tokenizer
Krutrim AI is finely tuned on a substantial amount of Indian data to grasp the nuances of Indian culture and languages. It employs a custom tokenizer for interpreting various Indian languages and scripts, outperforming open-source Language Learning Models on industry-standard benchmarks.
Aggarwal emphasizes the importance of building the entire AI stack tailored to Indian performance levels, cultural relevance, and cost structure. Krutrim aims to contribute to India’s journey towards an AI-first economy.
Krutrim SI Designs
Krutrim SI Designs, the company behind Krutrim AI, focuses on technological innovation. It aims to develop cutting-edge silicon chips, establish a robust cloud infrastructure, and create AI models tailored to the Indian context. Prototypes are expected to be released in mid-2024.
Availability
The Krutrim AI model website is live, allowing interested users to register their interest. The base LLM will be accessible to everyone from next month, with APIs available in February of the following year.
