Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 spatial computing platform with 4.3K 90fps support announced

Snapdragon has announced the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 spatial computing platform. It supports 4.3K per eye resolution and 12 or more concurrent cameras to deliver crisp, immersive mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 that powers the Meta Quest 3, the latest version gets a higher GPU frequency by 15% and CPU frequency by 20%. Further, the display resolution has been increased from 3K to 4.3K per eye and supports more than 12 concurrent cameras instead of 10 on the XR2 Gen 2. Other features of the new platform looks similar to those to that of the previous version.

  •  Packs premium MR and VR technology into a single-chip architecture for thinner and more comfortable headsets.
  • Supports Qualcomm FastConnect Mobile Connectivity System with ultra-fast Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 and 5.2 wireless connectivity for 60% higher throughput 2 and 50% lower latency.
  • It delivers 15% higher GPU and 20% higher CPU max frequency than the older model.
  • Dynamic foveated rendering, space warp, and game super-resolution for even more immersive 4K graphics.
  • It supports 12 or more concurrent cameras and dedicated XR acceleration blocks that enable unprecedented interactions including hand, head, controller, facial expression, depth estimation, and 3D reconstruction.
  • 8X more AI 0n-device performance than the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1.
Partnership with Samsung and Google

With the announcement of its latest platform, Qualcomm has confirmed a joint partnership with Samsung and Google. Samsung is expected to enter the MR/VR space by launching a new headset with the help of Google’s Android ecosystem and Qualcomm’s chipsets.

Regarding the partnership, Inkang Song, Vice President and Head of Technology Strategy Team at Samsung Electronics, said,
