HONOR MagicOS 8.0 announced — Check out the new features

HONOR announced MagicOS 8.0, the company’s latest UI for its smartphone based on Android 14. The new UI brings on-device AI, performance upgrades, new animations, lock screen styles, and AI-based features and offers multi-device connections more seemingly.

HONOR MagicOS 8.0 Features

Magic model on-device AI

HONOR has deployed its proprietary on-device LLM called Magic Model. It is trained with a 7 billion parameter that can bring functions such as smart filming, one-word map search, and one-drag schedule, all of which run locally on the device side.

This function requires the latest chipsets with NPU, meaning the upcoming Magic6 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will come with this support.

HONOR Portal

MagicOS 8.0 introduces AI-powered Magic Portal functions that leverage HONOR’s AI model to offer context-based app and services shortcut recommendations. This enables users to swiftly navigate various applications with a single click for efficient multitasking.

By pressing and holding text, pictures, or files and dragging them to screen edges, users can trigger diverse services, reducing steps and time. This service supports services like navigation, search, shopping, password, printing, sharing, and global collection.

Magic Capsule

Mimicking Apple’s Dynamic Island, HONOR has introduced its version called ‘Magic Capsule.’ Key notifications about the timer, hotspot status, order status, and more will gently interrupt for you to glance at it, eliminating the need to jump and allowing quick access to key information.

MagicRing

HONOR also expanded its multi-screen collaboration feature, which is now called MagicRing. This feature now supports up to 8 concurrent services, including network sharing, screen sharing, keyboard and mouse sharing, camera sharing, window sharing, file sharing, call sharing, and notification sharing across devices like PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

Performance Upgrades

HONOR is claimed to have achieved a performance upgrade of 30% compared to its predecessor, MagicOS 7.2. The animations have been refined and new scenario-aware intelligence keeps frequently used applications always online.

The company has also implemented system-level anti-aging technology which de-fragment high-frequency hot files, through which read performance is restored to over 90% of the initial performance.

Other Features
  • New dual space features operate independently, with completely isolated contacts and information, and an independent application market.
  • New Magic Lock Screen with lots of customizations.
  • Versatile Desktop allows users to pin an app’s sub-services on the home screen for easier interaction.
  • Shake-to-block ads, monthly privacy reports, and anti-fraud features.
  • HONOR Smart Space now offers intelligent recommendations for home control services.
