Rabbit Inc., a US-based AI startup, has announced Rabbit r1. This is a large action model (LAM) based handheld device that can act as an AI companion for everyday tasks. The hardware is powered by rabbit OS that can do intelligent actions based on your voice command, unlike the existing LLMs that only give text-based directions.
The Rabbit r1 has a push-to-talk button, a 360° rotatable camera, a far-field microphone, an analog scroll wheel, and a 2.88-inch TFT touchscreen. The hardware part of the device is so simple and the main highlight is its rabbit OS.
Rabbit OS
The LAM-based UI is trained based on users’ interaction with UI on apps and other services. LAM is a new type of foundation model that understands human intentions on computers, said the company. LAM completes basic tasks such as booking a flight or reservation to complex ones like editing images on Photoshop or streaming music and movies.
Further, you can also access your services via the Rabbit Hole, an all-in-one web portal to manage your relationship with Rabbit OS. For example, connecting your Spotify account with Rabbit Hole can give you access to songs directly on the Rabbit r1.
Another interesting feature of the OS is its teach mode. This experimental feature will let you record your actions, explain them with your voice, and play them to the rabbit OS. LAM will learn the particular task and can be applied to various scenarios.
The company showcased the teach mode by letting the OS learn how to generate an AI image via the Midjourney Bot on Discord, and later used that memory to generate the image via voice command on Rabbit r1.

Pricing and Availability
The Rabbit r1 comes in an orange color and is priced at USD 199 (Rs. 16,487 approx.). It is currently available for pre-order, and shipping of orders in the US/Canada will begin in March-April 2024. Shipping to non-US/Canada addresses is expected to begin later in 2024.
However, as of January 14th, the company said that pre-orders for 10,000 rabbit r1 devices has sold out, and pre-orders for the fourth batch now has an expected delivery date is June–July 2024.
The purchase of the r1 is currently available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and certain countries of the European Union (Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden), South Korea, Japan, and Australia.
