Google rolls out Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 update


Google is rolling out the next beta update for Android 14, known as QPR3 Beta 1. It comes with bug fixes, performance optimizations, and early access to the June Pixel Feature Drop.

The update carries the build number AP21.240119.009 and Play Services version 23.50.14. It also includes the February security patches. Google acknowledged that an AI feature (Circle To Search) mistakenly reached non-beta users first, which has been rectified in this beta update.

With this update, beta testers now get a sneak peek at the Circle to Search feature, which was recently rolled out to Pixel 8 users. Although still exclusive to Pixel 8, this update is available to eligible devices enrolled in the beta program, starting with the Pixel 5a.

Here are some notable changes and features in Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 shared by Mishaal Rahman:

  • Circle to Search: Now functional in the beta release.
  • Easter Egg Update: The Android 14 logo now enclosed by a triangle, hinting at Android 15’s internal dessert name “Vanilla Ice Cream.”
  • Biometric Prompt Dialog: Displays the icon of the invoking app.
  • Touch Sensitivity Settings: Screen protector mode moved to a submenu called “touch sensitivity.”
  • Adaptive Touch Mode: Prepares to adapt touch sensitivity to the environment.
  • Easy Pre-set Mode: Aims to simplify the Android UI.
  • Swipe Up to Continue: Feature for Pixel Fold users to continue using an app on the cover screen.
  • Chat Bubble UI Revamp: Planned for tablets.
  • Developer Option: Allows swapping the current kernel with one using a 16K page size.
  • Media Processing Service Type: Possible addition in Android 15.
Availability

The update is available for Pixel 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet series devices. Google encourages users to utilize the Android Beta Feedback app for reporting user-facing bugs.

If already enrolled in the Android 14 Beta program, devices will automatically receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to QPR3 Beta 1. To join the Android beta, visit g.co/androidbeta.
