Meizu, a China-based consumer electronics brand, has announced its exit from the smartphone market after 17 years of the launch of its first smartphone. The move is in line with the company’s decision to go ‘All in AI,’ backed by two years of preparation for the same.
Yesterday, Shen Ziyu, Chairman and CEO of Meizu Group made the declaration by addressing consumer behavior of taking a longer time to upgrade to newer models, less room for innovation, and fierce competition.
The company is working on an AI-based operating system, a reconstruction of the Flyme system by integrating AI, AI-based hardware, which is expected to be released later this year, and opening its hardware terminal for all large language models (LLMs), such as OpenAI.
All existing Meizu services and software, such as Meizu Flyme, Flyme Auto, Flyme AR, MYVU, and PANDAER, will remain unaffected. After-sales and related service guarantees for Meizu phones will be honored as promised.
With this new strategic move, Meizu Group is looking to improve its hardware, R&D, and supply chain team by leveraging artificial intelligence. Further, the firm will carry forward AI-native product design plans and continue to advance its business.
