Sony Xperia 1 VI could ditch 4K display, get wider aspect ratio

Sony’s Xperia smartphones are renowned for their distinctive 21:9 aspect ratio cinematic 4K displays. However, according to leakster zackbuks, there’s a significant design shift anticipated for the upcoming Xperia 1 VI.

As per his post on Weibo mentioning “Xperia 5 Series – R.IP 2024”, the new Xperia 1 VI might sport a 2K panel, deviating from its predecessors.

According to recent leaks, the Xperia 1 VI is expected to feature a 2K+ or Quad HD+ (about 3200 x 1440 pixels) panel, adopting a more traditional 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Despite this change, the overall design is rumored to stay consistent, albeit opting for a slightly smaller yet wider form factor. The phone’s aesthetic is likely to resemble previous Xperia models, retaining thick top and bottom bezels along with a left-aligned camera bump.

Reports suggest that the Xperia 1 VI will boast a triple camera setup on the back, with all three rear camera sensors rumored to be 48MP Exmor T sensors, including a 48MP 1/2.7″ periscope telephoto sensor capable of 3x optical zoom and up to 6x zoom via sensor crop.

As for the release date, zackbuks indicates a global launch in May. Concrete details about the Sony Xperia 1 VI are currently limited, but more information is expected as the launch date approaches.
