Nothing has announced Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition that will let the community co-develop an ultimate version of Phone (2a) brining their ideas to life across hardware design, smartphone wallpapers, packaging and marketing.
Fans of the brand will design, submit and vote across four stages, leading to an official Phone (2a) Community Edition being developed, said the company.
This will run for six months, and have four stages. Nothing said that during the period it will collect entries for the design of the ultimate version of Phone (2a).
Stage 1 that begins in March starts from Hardware Design. The winner will be given the opportunity to collaborate with Nothing’s London industrial design team to bring their idea to life. Submissions for this stage will open to all on 26 March 2024
Stage 2 that being in May will focus on Wallpaper Design. Members can design a series of wallpapers to seamlessly integrate with the chosen hardware design. The winning collection will ship pre-installed on Phone (2a) Community Edition.
Stage 3 in June will focus on the Packaging Design that ties together the hardware and wallpaper design from stages 1 and 2.

Regarding the community edition, Carl Pei, CEO and Co-founder of Nothing, said:
We believe in a future where the boundaries of what a company is and what the community is, will be erased and hopefully become the same thing. In the future, maybe the community can also contribute code to Nothing OS, or maybe they can create other products with us. We’ve got to believe in people and in the democratisation of information and knowledge. I think this is going to be a great opportunity to expand our community. This is a design and marketing co-creation project that I think will attract a lot of new creative minds. I’m excited to see what we are going to build together.
