Samsung has officially introduced the Exynos 1480 4nm 5G SoCs, afterthe launch of the Galaxy A55 smartphone, which powers the phone. The Exynos 1480 is the successor to last year’s Exynos 1380.
CPU Performance and power efficiency
Even though it uses Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 CPUs, the clock speed have been increased, and it gets a new Xclipse 530 GPU, which is based on the latest mobile AMD RDNA architecture which we had only seen in the Exynos flagships.
The Exynos 1480 with 4nm process tech has an overall 22% improvement in efficiency over the predecessor, allowing you to reduce power usage and benefit from longer battery life, says the company. I have been using the Galaxy A55 with the chip, and can clearly see the improvements in the battery life compared to the Galaxy A54.
The Cortex-A78 high-performance cores are now clocked at 2.75 GHz, up from 2.4GHz in the predecessor, and the Cortex-A55 power efficiency cores are retained at 2GHz clock speeds. The Exynos 1480 offers 13% app launch improvements and the multicore performance has been improved 18%, says the company.
The Exynos 1480 also has 4x improvement in AI performance over its predecessor, said Samsung.
GPU performance
The Xclipse 530 GPU based on the latest mobile AMD RDNA 2 architecture promises 53% performance improvements compared to the Mali-G68 MP5 GPU in the Exynos 1380.
The SoC supports Full HD+ display up to 144Hz refresh rate, up to 200MP camera and up to 4K 30fps video recording, same as the Exynos 1380. However, the Modem has seen improvements and this also gets Wi-Fi 6E support.
