Apple could launch new iPad Pro with M4 Chip: Report

Apple is gearing up for a big makeover of its Mac lineup by introducing the M4 family of chips, and now according to Mark Gurman on Bloomberg, a “strong possibility” exists that the next iPad Pro might run on the M4 chip instead of the M3, boasting AI capabilities.

iPad Pro with M4 Chip

Gurman suggests that Apple might market the new iPad Pro as its first AI-powered device, capitalizing on the current trend in the tech industry.

The timing of the iPad Pro’s release, expected just before the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, allows Apple to showcase its AI chip strategy without distraction.

At WWDC, the focus will likely shift to demonstrating how the M4 chip and the new iPad Pro will leverage AI software and services within iPadOS 18, slated for release later this year.

Gurman also anticipates the A18 chip in the iPhone 16 lineup to be marketed as AI-centric. Aside from the chip upgrade, notable enhancements include an OLED display, repositioned FaceTime camera, and revamped Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories.

Magic Keyboard and Pencil

Gurman suggests a new Apple Pencil with haptic feedback, speculating that it might incorporate a Taptic Engine for tactile responses during use, possibly including the rumored “squeeze” gesture.

Additionally, Apple is expected to introduce a 12.9-inch iPad Air and a redesigned Magic Keyboard alongside these updates.

However, Gurman notes that while these products will be marketed as AI-powered, their development isn’t solely focused on AI. Some of the excitement is due to marketing efforts, and more advanced capabilities are still in the works.

Further details about Apple’s AI strategy are anticipated at WWDC in June, coinciding with previews of major software updates.

The Apple ‘Let Loose’ iPad event is scheduled for May 7, 2024.
