Google unveils new features for Android and Wear OS including option to edit sent messages


Google has announced seven new features for Android phones, tablets, and Wear OS watches.

These updates are designed to “elevate your everyday” routines, making them more convenient and efficient, says Google. These new features include:

Edit Sent Messages

Google Messages will soon allow you to edit sent messages. Simply tap and hold an RCS message to correct typos, add missing words, or clarify your message within 15 minutes of sending.

Easy Hotspot Sharing and Device Switching for Video Calls

With the new instant hotspot feature, you can connect your Android tablet or Chromebook to your phone’s hotspot with one tap, no password required.

Additionally, you can switch devices during a Google Meet call by tapping the Cast icon, allowing seamless transitions between your Android phone, tablet, or web browser.

New Emoji Kitchen Combos

New sticker combinations are coming to Emoji Kitchen, just in time for festival season. Combine favorite emojis, like a disco ball and headphones, and share them as stickers via Gboard.

Control Google Home Devices from Home Screen

A new Google Home Favorites widget can be added to your phone’s home screen, enabling quick management of your smart devices.

You can check room temperature or turn off lights with a single tap. This widget is available for those in the Public Preview.

Smart Device Control on Wear OS Watches

Customize your Wear OS smartwatch with the Google Home Favorites tile and complication for easy access to your smart home devices. Control lights, door locks, and temperature settings directly from your wrist.

Google Wallet Payments on Wear OS Watches

Users in the U.S. and Germany can now make secure payments using PayPal on Google Wallet from their Wear OS watches.

Expanded Digital Car Key Availability

The digital car key feature, which allows you to lock, unlock, and start your car with your phone, is now available on select MINI models.

It will soon expand to select Mercedes-Benz and Polestar vehicles, and you can securely share your digital car key with family and friends.
