vivo X Fold3 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions

vivo today launched the X Fold3 Pro, the company’s flagship smartphone in India, and it is the first time the company is launching a foldable phone in the country. This has dual 120Hz LTPO displays, is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, has triple rear cameras including a Periscope telephoto camera that you rarely see in foldable phones, is just 11.2 mm thick when folded, and weighs just 236g.

We bring you the unboxing of the X Fold3 Pro along with the first impressions of the phone.

The review unit didn’t have a protective case, but the company has mentioned a cased in the box, so the retail unit comes with a case.

The vivo X Fold3 Pro has a large 8.03″ inner screen with 2K+ resolution, 8T 1-120Hz LTPO panel, E7 material and offers up to 4500 nits peak brightness, the phone has 1920Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming and has minimal bezels. Overall, the inner display looks brilliant for both indoor and outdoor. The screen has UTG protection. The crease is hardly visible.

On the outside, there is a 6.53″ FHD+ 8T LTPO 120Hz screen with up to 4,500 nits of local peak brightness.  This has 2160Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming and has Armor glass for protection.

Compared to the side-mounted fingerprint scanner in most foldable phones, this has an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for both the inner and outer screens.

This is the first foldable phone in India to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It comes in single 16GB LPDDR5X RAM + 512GB (UFS 4.0) storage version. It runs Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14 out of the box, and the performance is smooth.

There are a lot of software features such as fold to split, Air Gesture, Split-screen screenshots, Microsoft-link to Windows, Desk calendar AOD, Flex mode controls, AI Note Assist, AI Transcript Assist, AI Screen Translation and more features.

Coming to the design, the phone has a solid build quality, thanks to the solid metal frame, and the phone uses carbon fiber hinge weighing only 14.98 grams, making it 72% lighter than the metal hinge. The phone is just 5.2mm thick when open and is just 11.2mm when closed, making it the thinnest foldable phone.

The power button and volume rockers are present on the right side. There is an alert side on the left side, which we had not seen in a vivo phone before. The USB type-C port, dual SIM slot, loudspeaker grill and the microphone are present on the bottom. The IR blaster, secondary microphone and the speaker grill are present on the top.

Coming to the camera, the phone features triple rear cameras. It has a 50MP customized OV50H VCS main camera sensor, OIS, f/1.68 aperture, 50MP ultra-wide and a 50MP telephoto periscope camera with macro option.

The phone has T* coating. This also has vivo’s self-developed imaging chip V3 offering 4K-level processing, 4k 60fps night video and 4K portrait video shooting.

The phone has ZEISS Multifocal Portrait powered with multiple professional focal lengths of 24mm(1x), 35mm (1.5x), 50mm (2.2x), 85mm (3.7x) and 100mm (4.3x).

Even the back of the phone has Armor ultra-durable glass fiber and UPE fiber that looks premium and feels solid. The phone has IPX8 ratings for water resistance.

It is also the lightest foldable phone at just 236g, even though it packs a huge, 5700mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.

Priced at Rs. 1,59,999, the phone is already available for pre-order from vivo India eStore, Flipkart, Amazon and offline stores and will go on sale from June 13th. There are also several launch offers.
