Adobe adds generative AI tools for image editing in Acrobat

Adobe has introduced significant AI advancements in Adobe Acrobat, aiming to enhance creativity and productivity in digital documents.

Integrating Firefly Generative AI into Acrobat

Adobe has integrated Firefly Generative AI into PDFs, enabling users to enhance and create images directly within the Acrobat app.

Key features include:

  • Edit Image in Acrobat: This tool offers functionalities such as Generative Fill, Remove Background, Erase, and Crop, allowing users to easily modify document images. Users can erase unwanted objects, remove backgrounds, or add new images.
  • Generate Image in Acrobat: Powered by Adobe’s Firefly Image 3 Model, this feature lets users add new images to PDFs. Users can adjust the size and style of images to enhance their documents.

These features are designed to help users create visually compelling documents effortlessly. For example, sales teams can add images to business plans, entrepreneurs can update investor pitch decks, and small business owners can refresh promotional materials.

Acrobat AI Assistant

The Acrobat AI Assistant introduces new capabilities to simplify document insights, formatting, and sharing:

  • Insights Across Documents: Users can gather key themes, trends, and relationships from selected documents. For instance, marketers can use this feature to extract and format information about Gen Z customers from various documents.

  • Enhanced Meeting Transcripts: This capability provides generative summaries of virtual meeting transcripts, highlighting main topics, key points, and action items.

According to Adobe, millions have already benefited from Acrobat AI Assistant’s intuitive features since its beta release earlier this year.

Building Trust in AI

Adobe emphasizes that its generative AI models, including Firefly, are trained on licensed content, not customer data, adhering to principles of accountability, responsibility, and transparency.

To ensure trust, content created with these AI features includes Content Credentials detailing their origin.

AI Ethics and Data Security

Adobe has established standardized processes for AI development, overseen by an AI Ethics Review Board. Key protocols include:

  • Data Security: AI Assistant features in Acrobat and Reader follow strict data security protocols.
  • Enhanced Reliability: Adobe uses advanced AI and machine learning models to improve the quality of AI Assistant’s outputs.
  • Guardrails for LLMs: Adobe uses third-party LLMs with strict confidentiality and security standards, prohibiting them from training on Adobe customer data.
  • Streamlined AI Data Governance: Acrobat AI Assistant only analyzes user-provided documents.
  • Human Oversight: AI Assistant includes attributions for easy verification of information sources.

Adobe remains committed to responsible AI development, ensuring their features are trustworthy and commercially safe.

Pricing and Availability

From June 18 to June 28, all Acrobat users can explore AI Assistant features at no cost.

  • Subscription Plans: Starting at USD 4.99 (Rs. 416 approx.) per month (early access pricing until September 4), users can subscribe to AI Assistant for continued access to enhanced document capabilities across desktop, web, and mobile platforms.
