Google launches Gemini app in India with multilingual support

Google has finally launched its Gemini AI app in India, marking a significant expansion in its AI capabilities. The Gemini app and Gemini Advanced are now available in nine Indian languages, enhancing accessibility for users across the country.

Gemini App: Multimodal Assistance

The Gemini app supports English and nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Users can type, talk, or upload images to get assistance ranging from changing a flat tire to crafting messages, making it a versatile tool for everyday tasks.

Gemini Advanced: Enhanced Features

Google introduces Gemini Advanced with powerful new capabilities in Indian languages. Featuring Gemini 1.5 Pro, it boasts a 1 million token context window, the largest among consumer chatbots.

This allows deep understanding of lengthy documents, emails, videos, and codebases, enabling quick summaries, personalized feedback, and data analysis.

  • Document Uploads: Users can upload large documents (up to 1,500 pages) or summarize extensive emails, receiving quick insights and actionable feedback.
  • Data Analysis: Gemini Advanced processes spreadsheets (Google Sheets, CSVs, Excel) for detailed data exploration, analysis, and visualization, aiding tasks like expense pattern identification and sales analysis.

Google emphasizes privacy, ensuring that user-uploaded files remain private and are not used for model training.

Availability

To use Gemini on Android, users can download the Gemini app or opt-in through Google Assistant. Access is facilitated through gestures or voice commands (“Hey Google”), providing contextual help directly on the screen.

  • Gemini in Google Messages: Google introduces Gemini in Google Messages, enabling users to draft messages, brainstorm ideas, and plan events directly within the app, initially available in English.
  • iOS Access: Gemini will roll out on iOS through the Google app over the coming weeks, expanding its reach to Apple users.

Google promises to integrate more voice features into Gemini, enhancing functionalities like setting timers, making calls, and setting reminders.
