HONOR announced two major on-device AI innovations at MWC Shanghai 2024, focusing on user empowerment and safety.
In its keynote, “The Human-AI Synergy: Intelligent Devices Will Empower People Better,” HONOR introduced AI Defocus Eye Protection and AI Deepfake Detection, emphasizing the importance of human-centric AI and AI-enabled hardware for personalized services while safeguarding privacy.
Advanced Eye Protection Technology
HONOR launched AI Defocus Eye Protection to address the rise in nearsightedness from prolonged screen use.
This technology uses AI to mimic defocus glasses on the device’s display, which helps maintain clear central vision by inducing controlled defocus in the peripheral visual field. This technique can slow the eye elongation process, reducing the risk of nearsightedness.
HONOR’s research shows that AI Defocus Eye Protection can decrease transient myopia by 13 degrees on average after 25 minutes of reading, with some users experiencing up to a 75-degree reduction.
Combating Fraud with AI Deepfake Detection
To tackle the threat of deepfake AI technology, HONOR introduced AI Deepfake Detection.
This feature analyzes frame-by-frame details like eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback to spot imperfections invisible to the human eye.
Trained on a vast dataset of scam-related videos and images, the AI can identify, screen, and compare content within three seconds. If synthetic or altered content is detected, a risk warning is immediately issued to protect users from potential scams.

At Snapdragon Summit 2023, HONOR launched Personalized Services with its on-device LLM, including Generative AI, AI Video Creation, Magic Capsule, and MagicRing on the latest Magic6 smartphones.
