Airtel hikes prepaid and postpaid tariffs by up to 20%


After Reliance Jio, Airtel has also hiked its prepaid and postpaid plans, which now start from Rs. 199 for a 28-day plan. This is a major hike since 2021.

Airtel plans have seen a hike between 11% and 20% with the yearly plan costing Rs. 3599, up by 20% from Rs. 2999.

The company says that it have ensured that there is a very modest price increase (less than 70p per day) on the entry level plans, in order to eliminate any burden on budget challenged consumers.

Pre-Paid plans 2024

Airtel’s postpaid plans have also seen a price hike to match the pre-paid plans with the top-end plan now costing Rs. 1,199, up 20% from Rs. 999.

Post-Paid Plans 2024

The new tariffs for all Airtel plans will be available on airtel.in starting July 3rd, 2024. Airtel said that these prices will apply to all circles, including Bharti Hexacom Ltd. Circles.

Airtel said that it has maintained that the mobile Average Revenue per User (ARPU) needs to be upwards of Rs. 300, to enable a financially healthy business model for Telcos in India.

Regarding this, the company in a statement said:

We believe that this level of ARPU will enable the substantial investments required in network technology and spectrum and offer a modest return on capital.
