Sonos launched the Sub Mini wireless subwoofer in India last year. You can add the subwoofer to your Sonos system such as Era 100, Ray, Arc and others. We paired it with the Sonos Arc that we reviewed last month.
Design and Build quality
The Sonos Mini is small, and has a cylindrical shape, similar to other Sonos subwoofers. It measures 305 x 230 x 230 mm and weighs 6.35kg, making it heavier than the Sonos Arc. It has a metal matte finish mesh with 76,000 holes in all the grilles on the front that looks and feels premium. However, it attracts fingerprints and smudges. In addition to Black, the Sound bar also comes in White colour.
It uses Dual 6″ woofers face inwards for a force-cancelling effect, each powered by a class-D amplifier.
There are sturdy bushes on the bottom so it doesn’t move easily.
On the front there is a join button. This is used only during pairing.
There is a power port and an 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port.
Connectivity, and Pairing
The Sonos Sub Mini supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4 or 5 GHz. Setting up and connecting the Sub Mini to other speakers and soundbar is easy. Just go to the Sonos app, and follow the instructions to pair it with other devices. You will need to enter the 8 digit pin on the bottom of the subwoofer and press the join button on the front when prompted during setup.
Sonos App
The Sonos App for Android and iOS doesn’t have a lot of customization options for the subwoofer. From the sound settings, you can adjust sublevel, and set the phone from 0° to 180°. You can also disable the sub easily from the app.
EQ audio settings automatically equalize to balance Sub Mini and the paired Sonos product(s), said the company.
Audio Quality
The Sub Mini delivers deep, impactful bass that fills the room without sounding boomy or overwhelming. This clean and precise bass adds a new dimension to movies and music, enhancing the overall listening experience. The bass so impactful, and you might need to turn it down from the neutral level
The subwoofer seamlessly integrates with Sonos soundbars and speakers, creating a more immersive soundstage. It effectively handles the lower frequencies, freeing up processing power for other speakers and resulting in clearer vocals and a richer mid-range.
Even though it is powerful, it is also a bit too much for smaller spaces or even at lower volume settings. The bass’s sheer power can overpower other frequencies if not adjusted carefully. This might be a turn-off for those who prefer a more subtle bass presence.
