iOS 18 adds customization options and multilingual support for India


Apple showcased iOS 18 at WWDC 2024, highlighting new features and enhancements tailored for users in India.

The update introduces significant customization options and integrates Apple Intelligence to enhance user experience across various functionalities.

Customization Options

Lock Screen and Contact Posters: Users can now customize their lock screen time display using Indian numerals from 12 languages, including Arabic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Kannada, and Telugu.

Font color and weight adjustments allow for personalized Contact Posters.

Enhanced Communication
  • Live Voicemail Transcription: Introduced in Indian English, this feature enhances communication by transcribing voicemails in real time.
  • Live Caller ID: Users benefit from real-time identification of callers.
  • Smart Call History Search: Enhanced search capabilities within call history streamline user experience.
  • New Phone Keypad Search: Improved dialing experience with an updated keypad interface.
Improved Dual SIM Control

Redesigned Control Center: Users can now switch between SIM cards quickly and easily.

Multilingual Support

Keyboard Enhancements: On iPhone 12 and later models, users can type phonetically with Latin characters across English and up to two additional Indian languages for predictive typing.

This trilingual experience supports QuickPath and Emoji Prediction. Additional language scripts are accessible for seamless switching between conversations.

Alphabetical Keyboard Layouts

Expanded Language Support: iOS 18 introduces alphabetical keyboard layouts for 11 Indian languages, simplifying typing in native scripts by dynamically adjusting keys based on user input.

Enhanced Language Search

Improved Functionality: Language search capabilities now accommodate diverse spelling variations, ensuring users can find content using familiar spellings in languages like Assamese, Bangla, Devanagari, and Gujarati.

Multilingual Siri

Extended Language Support: Siri now supports 9 additional Indian languages alongside Indian English, enabling users to interact in mixed English and regional languages for tasks like setting alarms, launching apps, and more. Siri can also respond in Hindi.

Translate App Integration

Expanded Language Support: Hindi is now supported in the Translate app, Safari webpages, and systemwide translation features.

Move to iOS App

Enhanced Migration: The latest update improves transfer speeds, reliability, and offers more transfer options, including wireless and wired connections, facilitating a smoother transition to iPhone.

Availability

iOS 18 will be available as a free update this fall.

Currently, developers can access the beta version through the Apple Developer Program.
