WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new generative AI feature dubbed ‘AI-generated images of you’ that will allow users to create personalized avatars of themselves.
This upcoming feature, utilizing Meta AI technology, is set for a future release. The latest WhatsApp beta update for Android (version 2.24.14.13) includes tools to generate AI images of users.
To begin, users take setup photos that Meta AI examines to create precise AI avatars. Users retain complete control, able to delete setup photos via Meta AI settings at any time.
Users can generate AI images by typing “Imagine me” in Meta AI chats or using “@Meta AI imagine me” in other chats. Meta AI processes these commands independently, automatically sharing the resulting image in the conversation while ensuring user privacy.
This optional feature must be manually enabled in settings, with users needing to complete setup photos beforehand.
Availability
The feature is in development and slated for a future WhatsApp update. Meta is expanding Meta AI chatbot and AI image generation support across its apps (WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram) globally, suggesting the AI avatar feature’s launch may take time.
