Samsung has announced the introduction of a new BioActive Sensor for the upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra and Watch 7 smartwatches, ahead of their Unpacked event on July 10.
This sensor aims to enhance “predictive” and “preventative” wellness features, providing more accurate health measurements than the Galaxy Watch 6.
Features and Specifications: BioActive Sensor
The new BioActive Sensor focuses on three key upgrades:
- Improved Photodiodes: Enhancing the performance of light-receiving photodiodes.
- Additional LED Colors: Including Blue, Yellow, Violet, and Ultraviolet LEDs, along with more Green, Red, and Infrared LEDs.
- Optimal LED Arrangement: Optimally placing these LEDs across the sensor for better accuracy.
Design Enhancements
Samsung has doubled the performance of each photodiode, reducing the number needed from eight to four. This redesign allows for a greater number and variety of LEDs to be integrated, ensuring optimal placement and improved health monitoring capabilities.
Improved Health Metrics
The new sensor’s design allows for more accurate measurement of health metrics such as:
- Heart rate
- Sleep quality
- Blood pressure
- Blood oxygen levels
- Stress levels
Heart rate measurement during intensive workouts is 30% more accurate compared to the previous model.
New Wellness Features
The diverse colors of LEDs and new photodiodes enable the sensor to unlock new possibilities in health monitoring. One of the new features is the advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index, which is an indicator of metabolic health and biological aging.
This index provides a snapshot of biological age, helping users make informed decisions about their wellness.
On the announcement, Samsung posted:
The next Galaxy Watch will introduce more advanced and intelligent health and wellness tools to help you achieve your goals. We can’t wait to show you more!
