Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 with 6.7″ FHD+ 1-120Hz AMOLED display, 3.4″ cover display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, IP48 ratings announced

Samsung just announced the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the company’s next-generation flip phone, at its unpacked event in Paris, as it had promised. This retains the 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex main display with a 22:9 aspect ratio, 1 to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, but the screen is now 48% brighter at up to 2600 nits.

The cover screen is the same 3.4-inches Super AMOLED display with 60Hz refresh rate, but it now has up to 2600 nits peak brightness. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy in the Z Flip5 is replaced by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, and for the first time Samsung has added vapor chamber cooling in its flip phone. The phone has a new 50MP sensor, while retaining the 12MP ultra-wide and the 10MP front camera.

Software and AI features

The phone runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1, and will get seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates to match the S24 series.

The phone has Galaxy AI with features such as Note Assist, Circle to Search, Interpreter, Live Translate, AI-powered ProVisual Engine, Photo Assist, Portrait Studio, and more.

The dual rail hinge structure is further supported by a strengthened folding edge, better distributing the shock of external impacts. The phone is now thinner at 14.9mm when folded, but there is no change in the thickness when unfolded and it weighs the same as the Flip 5.

There are enhanced layers on the main screen that help to improve the crease while maintaining strength, according to the company. The phone is also equipped with enhanced Armor Aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone also has IP48 ratings for dust and water resistance, compared to IPX8 ratings in the older models. The battery is now bigger at 4000mAh, compared to 3700mAh in the predecessor.
