Chinese smartphone market grew 8.9% year over year (YoY) to 71.6 million units in the second quarter of 2024, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).
vivo has posted 17.1% YoY growth and grabs the top spot with 18.5% share, shipping 13.1 million units. HUAWEI follows close by with 18.1% share, 10.6 million unit shipments and has posted 50.2% growth compared to last year.
OPPO is in the third with spot with 15.7% share, and 11.3 million unit shipments, but declined 2.8% YoY, HONOR has declined 3.7% YoY despite shipments of 10.7 million units.
Xiaomi is in the fifth spot posting 16.5% YoY growth and has re-entered in to the top 5 by shipping 10 million units, thanks to strong sales of Redmi K70 and Xiaomi 14 series.
Apple has been knocked out from the top 5 to the 6th spot. According to Canalys, the company has 14% market share, a decrease of 2% YoY. We should know more details regarding the smartphone shipments in each region, including its performance in China, when Apple announces it at the earnings call next week.
