vivo Tech Day 2024: vivo India pledges to boost local manufacturing and design


vivo kicked off its tenth anniversary in India with the second vivo Tech Day 2024.

The event showcased vivo’s latest technology advancements aimed at addressing unique consumer needs. vivo’s R&D experts provided an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at various technologies.

A range of international and Indian partners demonstrated unique technologies featured in vivo smartphones:

vivo-ZEISS Imaging System: vivo has deepened its global partnership with ZEISS to enhance imaging capabilities. Technologies on display included the T* Coating for better image clarity, the ZEISS APO Telephoto lens with up to 100x zoom, and Multifocal Portraits supporting five focal lengths (24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm) for professional portraits.

vivo Camera Innovations: vivo introduced the next-generation V3+ chip, which has evolved from 12nm to 6nm architecture, offering improved AI Video algorithm support and multi-algorithm concurrency for stronger performance and lower power consumption.

vivo also collaborates with Sony to develop the 50MP LYT 900 sensor, known for superior low-light performance.

SCHOTT Challenge Lab: vivo’s partnership with SCHOTT has led to the use of advanced cover glass for premium smartphones. SCHOTT’s Xensation series offers flexibility, strength, and durability through unique glass compositions and advanced ion exchange processes.

SCHOTT demonstrated the durability of their cover glass with various tests, highlighting their commitment to reliable smartphone protection.

AI Technology: vivo partners with Google to integrate AI features in smartphones. The X Fold3 Pro uses advanced AI tools from Google’s Gemini family on Vertex AI to enhance productivity. The upcoming V40 Series will introduce AI Imaging capabilities to improve user photography experiences.

Telecommunication Advancements: vivo is a major contributor to 3GPP, with around 6000 patents and over 15,000 proposals to 3GPP since 2017.

iQOO Innovations: iQOO, a subsidiary of vivo, showcased its partnership with BMW M Motorsport, inspiring the Legend tricolour design of iQOO’s flagship series.

iQOO also presented the world’s first commercial 200W FlashCharge technology, which fully charges a 4700mAh battery in 10 minutes. The Supercomputing Chip Q1 enhances gaming with 144fps, 900P Super Resolution, and Game Frame Interpolation (MEMC).

vivo India Impact Report 2023

During Tech Day 2024, the third edition of the vivo India Impact Report was released, outlining vivo’s contributions to India’s mobile ecosystem over the past decade, including local value addition, exports, manufacturing, CSR, and employment.

Highlights of the report includes:

  • Make in India: Over the past decade, vivo India has produced 150+ million ‘Made in India’ smartphones. Its manufacturing facilities have provided jobs and skill development for over 15,000 Indians.
  • Localisation: vivo partners with 30+ Indian suppliers. Localisation includes 100% local assembly of motherboards, 94% of batteries, 97% of chargers, 77% of cameras, and 97% of fingerprint sensors (Feb 23 – Feb 24).
  • Global Exports: Since 2022, vivo has exported ‘Made in India’ smartphones worth Rs. 400 crore.
  • Bridging the Digital Divide: Since 2019, vivo has enabled over 1.2 million Indians to access smartphones through micro-financing partners.
  • India-Centric Products: vivo engages with over 100,000 Indian consumers annually, focusing on local preferences. Innovations include India’s first 50MP Eye Auto Focus Dual Selfie, Colour Changing Technology, and Indian Wedding Style mode.
  • Retail Expansion: vivo India has established 70,000+ retail touchpoints, with partners earning Rs. 15,000 crores cumulatively. Around 10,000 retailers each have annual turnovers exceeding Rs. 1 crore (Source: Counterpoint Research).
  • After-Sales Service: From 2015 to now, vivo’s service network has grown from 30 centers and 200 staff to over 650 centers and 2,500 staff members.
  • Workforce Empowerment: vivo India creates approximately 200,000 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Community Impact: vivo has invested Rs. 26 crores in CSR initiatives, positively impacting 2.5 million lives. Notable programs include ‘vivo Ignite’ for student innovation and ‘Women in STEM’ scholarships.
