MediaTek Dimensity 9400 with 40% better NPU performance?

MediaTek is gearing up to introduce the Dimensity 9400, the company’s flagship SoC, as the successor to Dimensity 9300. Earlier rumours revealed ARM’s newest CPU architecture, ‘BlackHawk,’ for improved performance.

According to Taiwan’s Commercial Times, the Dimensity 9400 will offer 40% better performance compared to Dimensity 9300 which offers 48 TOPS.

MediaTek CEO Cai Lixing during the earnings call earlier this week said that the Dimensity 9300 chip generated USD 1 billion in revenue for the company in 2023, helping to boost revenue by 70%, and the upcoming Dimensity 9400 chip is more advanced and is expected to achieve greater success.

Leaker Digital Chat Station said that the vivo X200 series will be the first to be powered by the chip, with OPPO Find X8 series to follow.

MediaTek CEO also said that the average selling price (ASP) of the Dimensity 9400 chip will also be higher than the previous generation, and it will actively explore the international market. This should increase the price of the phones powered by the chip.

Dimensity 9400 chip is expected to use TSMC’s second-generation N3 process with 1 x Cortex-X5 with around 3.4GHz, 3x Cortex-X4 and 4 x Cortex-A720 cores.

The official announcement for the Dimensity 9400 is slated for Q4 2024, likely around the launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 at the end of October.
