OnePlus is addressing the green line issue commonly seen in AMOLED screens by offering a new display panel for certain models.
First spotted by X user Starcommander, this initiative is part of their Red Cable Club loyalty program, which includes a lifetime display warranty and now a pre-emptive display replacement to prevent the issue.
Free Screen Diagnostics and Service Initiative
As per the report by Android Authority, OnePlus has introduced a comprehensive Free Screen Diagnostics and Service Initiative, which includes three tiers of service:
- Comprehensive Diagnostics: Evaluates the screen’s performance and reliability.
- Screen Upgrades and Replacements: Provides a new, advanced display panel with vibrant colors and increased durability, specifically engineered for high-humidity and high-temperature environments.
- Deep Cleaning Service: Offers a thorough cleaning of the device to ensure optimal operation.
OnePlus has collaborated with suppliers to develop new screen technology for older devices, improving resistance to moisture and environmental conditions, according to the report.
The initiative initially targets the OnePlus 8 Pro and will extend to other models as screens become available. Users can visit service centers for diagnostics, but devices with human-caused damages like drops or liquid intrusion are excluded from the free upgrade.
It remains unclear if the lifetime display warranty covers the new display, but users in India can choose between keeping their current display under the lifetime warranty or opting for a free pre-emptive screen swap.
Eligibility and availability
The Lifetime Free Screen Upgrade offer applies to OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9R models. The phone must be free of damage and unauthorized repairs.
Currently, this benefit is limited to India, with OnePlus exploring the possibility of extending similar benefits to other regions, including the U.S., the report added.
OnePlus is taking good steps by continuing to support older customers with hardware issues through no fault of their own, aligning with last year’s lifetime screen warranty offer in India.
