ByteDance unveils ‘Jimeng AI’ text-to-video tool in China

ByteDance has launched a new AI tool called Jimeng AI in China, as reported by Reuters. ByteDance has developed Jimeng AI through its subsidiary Faceu Technology, a tool that creates videos from text prompts similar to OpenAI’s Sora.

Features of Jimeng AI
  • AI Picture Creation: Users can describe their ideas in natural language, and Jimeng AI will generate unique pictures. It also offers editing features to refine these images.
  • Video Creation: Users can input their ideas, and Jimeng AI will create videos. Multiple attempts can be made to achieve the desired result.
  • Sharing Options: Creations can be shared via links or saved locally, allowing others to appreciate the user’s creativity.
  • Explore Creative Works: The Explore page lets users browse and appreciate other users’ works, offering inspiration and allowing them to leave comments.
  • Personalized Creations: Users can replicate and customize other users’ works using their prompts.

Competition and Market Context

Jimeng AI is part of a growing market of AI video tools in China, competing with Kuaishou’s Kling AI and Zhipu AI’s Ying, both accessible globally. Shengshu’s Vidu app also recently launched.

These developments highlight a trend among Chinese tech firms to create AI video tools, following the launch of OpenAI’s Sora in February, which is not yet publicly available.
