Google opens early access to Android Device Streaming for OEMs

Google has announced the early access availability of Android Device Streaming for Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO Device Labs, following its open beta announcement at Google I/O 2024.

What is Android Device Streaming?

Android Device Streaming, powered by Firebase, provides secure remote access to physical Android devices hosted in Google’s data centers. It offers a streamlined way to test apps on various devices, including the Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Fold, and select Samsung models.

Key Features:

  • Remote app deployment
  • Real-time device interaction (e.g., rotating or unfolding)
  • Direct ADB over SSL connection

After use, Google wipes all data and performs a factory reset before the device is available to another developer.

Expansion and Integration

Google is expanding device access by integrating with device labs from Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO.

This integration maintains the same performance, stability, and security benefits as Google-hosted devices. Developers will be able to access more physical devices directly within Android Studio.

Early Access to OEM Lab Devices – Powered by OmniLab

The beta release of Android Device Streaming allows access to Google-hosted devices via Android Studio. Later this year, an Early Access Program (EAP) will include devices from Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO.

These labs will be globally located, with access managed through existing Firebase projects. Built on Google’s OmniLab platform, Android Device Streaming ensures secure and efficient sessions with a direct ADB over SSL connection. Devices are reset and wiped after each session.

Availability

To join the Early Access Program, developers should complete the form on the Android Developers Blog. Google will notify applicants if accepted.

In the meantime, developers can try the current devices available in Android Device Streaming. The program is currently offering extra free monthly minutes until February 2025.
