ASUS 65W USB-C GaN Charger Review

ASUS recently launched a 65W USB-C GaN charger in India, and I have been testing it for a week. Is it worth considering if you are in the market for a GaN charger? Let’s find it out in this review

Design

The design is pretty normal with minimal branding. There are 2 USB-C ports on the top and Asus branding on one side and the 65W branding on another side. The various charging wattages supported and regulatory information are printed on the back.  The unit we have is for the India market and comes with 2 round pins suited for our AC outlets. In other markets such as US, Taiwan it comes with foldable prongs.

The charger weighs around 114g and quite compact and portable.

The device features smart load balancing which lets both ports charge at full 65W when only single device is connected and divides the power depending on the devices connected.

Real Word Usage

I tried charging several devices with the charger and included cable: iPhone 15 Pro Max, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7X, Legion Go gaming console, Apple MacBook Pro and the Asus Vivobook S 15. Charging reliable and heating was minimal. While measuring on a power meter, it does deliver peak 65W consistently when connected to a device which supports it.

I have had mixed luck with GaN chargers when it comes to charging the Mac and happy to report that the Asus 65W charger does charge the device and I might consider carrying it around instead of my 100W Apple power adapter.

Conclusion and Price

The ASUS 65W USB-C GaN Charger is available at a launch price of Rs. 2,799 (MRP Rs. 4,999) in White color and can be purchased from the Asus e-Store or Amazon.in

While there are several products in the market, what makes this stand out is the ASUS brand, which is well-known for shipping quality tech products. The charger has been tested for durability including a 3000-cycle cable bend test and 10,000-cycle insert-and-removal test.

Similar Products Worth Considering

There are multiple GaN chargers from other brands such as Anker, Stuffcool, CMF and Portronics in the market which are similarly priced and available at more attractive prices during deals. Some even offer more ports but could be slightly bulkier.
