Microsoft has announced three new accessibility devices and 3D printable files for adaptive thumbstick toppers, expanding options for Xbox gamers.
Developed in collaboration with the Gaming & Disability community and nonprofit organizations, these additions are designed to enhance accessibility.
Xbox Adaptive Joystick
The Xbox Adaptive Joystick is a newly introduced, wired device that serves as an affordable joystick compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller and other Xbox controllers.
It’s tailored for players with limited mobility, featuring four customizable button inputs, a standard Xbox thumbstick, and two additional buttons that replicate traditional bumper and trigger functions.
The joystick can be used with one hand, mounted on tabletops, or operated with non-hand body parts. It connects directly to a console or PC for full functionality, or can be linked with an Xbox controller using Xbox Controller Assist.
The joystick supports button remapping and multiple profiles via the Xbox Accessories app and can be mounted with any ¼”-20 threaded equipment (sold separately).

Microsoft has also introduced 3D printable files for adaptive thumbstick toppers, enabling further controller customization.
Available through Xbox Design Lab, these files offer six designs:
- Plate-shaped topper: Shallow, indented surface for operation with larger body parts.
- Dome-shaped topper: Rounded surface for various grip strengths.
- Stick-shaped topper: Narrow cylindrical grip to reduce force needed.
- Pull thumbstick topper: Deep, bowl-shaped surface to reduce pressure required.
- Sphere-shaped topper: Rounded surface for alternative operation methods.
- Custom topper: Allows players to create unique shapes using materials like clay or moldable plastic.
Players can download these files from Xbox Design Lab and print them using a 3D printer or a 3D printing service.
8BitDo Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller
The 8BitDo Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller, designed for gamers with limited mobility, is now available. It features low-resistance buttons, sensitive joysticks, and a non-slip silicone mat.
The controller connects wirelessly via a 2.4G adapter or can be wired to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows 10 and above. It also includes two programmable Super Buttons that are compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

ByoWave Proteus Controller
The ByoWave Proteus Controller, which was developed over four years and recently highlighted by Microsoft for Global Accessibility Awareness Day, is now available.
This controller features a modular design with “snap and play” parts, allowing players to customize their setup with over 100 million combinations.
The module mapping system enables easy saving and switching between configurations.
New Toggle Hold Feature
Microsoft has introduced a new toggle hold feature, now available to Xbox Insiders. This feature allows players to assign any button or port on the Xbox Adaptive Controller, Xbox Adaptive Joystick, or Xbox Elite Series 2 controller to stay pressed until pressed again, similar to sticky keys on a computer.
Accessible Packaging
Microsoft has designed the Xbox Adaptive Joystick packaging with accessibility in mind, including features like looped tape, a large base-tab, a hinged box lid, and ample space around the product for easier removal.
These improvements have also been applied to the packaging for the new Xbox Series X|S console options, including the Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition and Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition.

- Xbox Adaptive Joystick: Launching in early 2025 at USD 29.99 (Rs. 2,515 approx.), exclusively through the Microsoft Store.
- 8BitDo Lite SE: Available now for USD 59.99 (Rs. 5,035 approx.) in select markets.
- ByoWave Proteus Controller: Available now for USD 299 (Rs. 25,090 approx.) in the U.S., Europe, U.K., and Canada.
