Airtel will shut down Wynk Music, the company’s own music streaming service, 10 years after the launch back in 2014. This news comes after the company announced a partnership with Apple to offer Apple Music subscription to the existing Wynk Premium subscribers.
Wynk Music was one of the popular apps for the past few years, and it crossed 100 million app installs in 2019, months after Spotify was launched in India, which already had Apple Music since 2015
The company also launched Wynk Studio in 2022. Last year it offered Dolby Atmos to Wynk Music users at no extra cost, in partnership with Dolby Laboratories.
Airtel said that Wynk Music has been at the forefront of offering quality music content for customers, and mentioned that Wynk Premium users will roll into Apple Music and get exclusive offers. According to Airtel, all Wynk Music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem.
Wynk Music is expected to shut down later this year, and the existing Wynk Premium should get a notification regarding the exclusive offers for the Apple Music soon.
