Google Pixel 9a in the Pixel 9 series is only expected to launch next year, but rumours of the phone started surfacing recently. Now, Android Authority reports that the 9a will get the Tensor G4 SoC that is used in the other phones in the Pixel 9 series, but will get an older modem used in the Tensor G3 SoC.
Even though the Pixel 9a is expected to get the Google Tensor G4 SoC with support for 5G SA/NSA and come with Titan M2 Security chip from the Pixel 9 series, it is said to use Exynos Modem 5300 from the Pixel 8 series. The Pixel 9 series use Exynos Modem 5400 with support for 5G 3GPP Rel. 17, and has improved effeciency.
This is also said to use Samsung’s IPoP (Integrated Package on Package) instead of FOPLP (Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging) from the Pixel 9’s G4 to cut the cost, the same as what it did for the Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a.
An alleged live image of the Pixel 9a surfaced recently, hinting at a different design without the camera bar, but the new report is not sure about the design change considering the premium look of the Pixel 9.
We should know more details, including the CAD-based renders, in the coming months.
