Intel Core Ultra 200V series processors with Xe2 graphics announced

Intel has launched its Intel Core Ultra 200V series, the most efficient x86 processors it has produced to date, as announced. These new processors deliver outstanding performance, exceptional power efficiency, enhanced security, and seamless AI computing capabilities.

Intel Core Ultra 200V Series Processors

The Intel Core Ultra 200V series is designed to deliver superior low-power performance for AI-powered PCs.

It reduces package power consumption by up to 50% and achieves up to 120 TOPS (tera operations per second) across the CPU, GPU, and NPU, providing high-performance AI experiences across various models and engines.

The fourth-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in these processors offers up to four times the power of its predecessor, making it ideal for sustained AI workloads while maintaining energy efficiency.

Intel has collaborated with over 100 integrated software vendors (ISVs) and developers, enabling more than 300 AI-accelerated features through its AI PC Acceleration Program.

Enhanced Core and Graphics Performance

These processors provide refined power management and reengineered Performance-cores (P-cores) optimized for performance per power per area. The new Efficient-cores (E-cores) handle more workloads effectively, ensuring cool and quiet operations.

The Intel Core Ultra 200V series also introduces Intel’s new Xe2 graphics microarchitecture, which enhances mobile graphics performance by 30%. The built-in Intel Arc GPU includes up to eight 2nd Gen Xe-cores, eight ray tracing units, and supports up to three 4K monitors.

Additionally, the new Intel Xe Matrix Extensions (Intel XMX) AI engines deliver up to 67 TOPS, improving creative applications and gaming experiences.

Intel’s Vision for AI PCs

Intel states that “a great AI PC first and foremost has to be a great PC.” The Intel Core Ultra 200V series aims to be a productivity powerhouse, offering up to three times the performance per thread and up to 80% peak performance improvement, with up to 20 hours of battery life during typical productivity tasks.

These processors are part of Intel’s broader ecosystem, which includes partnerships with leading ISVs and over 500 optimized AI models. These partnerships allow users to fully leverage AI capabilities for content creation, security, productivity, and gaming:

  • Content Creation: Automated detection of video scene changes for faster editing and generating art through text prompts.
  • Security: Local AI deep-fake detection to verify video authenticity and AI-powered scanning to secure sensitive files.
  • Productivity: Enhanced video presentation capabilities and automatic audio generation to save time.
  • Gaming: Improved frames-per-second performance and upscaled images for a better gaming experience.
Comparison with AMD Ryzen HX 370 and Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78100

Intel claims that laptops with the Core Ultra 200V processor offer up to three times the performance per thread and an 80% increase in peak performance, with up to 20 hours of battery life in productivity scenarios.

The Core Ultra 9 2988V outperforms the AMD Ryzen HX 370, Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78100, and Apple M3 in both speed and power efficiency.

A laptop with a 72Whr battery powered by the Core Ultra 9 2988V can provide up to 14 hours of battery life while running productivity applications or 9.5 hours of Microsoft Teams, surpassing devices with AMD Ryzen HX 370 and Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78100 chips.

Graphics performance

For graphics performance, the Xe2 GPU on the Core Ultra 200V delivers 16% more FPS in gaming compared to the AMD Ryzen HX 370 and 68% more compared to the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78100.

The Lunar Lake Arc 140V iGPU also shows a 68% improvement over Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU on the X1E-84-100, and it successfully runs games that the Adreno GPU cannot.

Intel also compares its Xe2 GPU against AMD’s Radeon 800M series, based on the RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture. While the Radeon 800M series has shown excellent gaming performance and efficiency, Intel claims its Xe2 GPU is 16% faster, with the Arc 140V sometimes matching or exceeding the performance of the Radeon 890M iGPU, despite the latter having 12 CUs compared to the 8 Xe2 cores on Intel’s Lunar Lake chips.

Collaboration with Leading Partners

Intel’s Core Ultra 200V processors will be featured in over 80 consumer designs from more than 20 manufacturers, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, and Samsung.

LG gram 16 Pro with Intel Core Ultra Processor

LG Electronics will debut its latest LG gram laptop with the Intel Core Ultra processor (Series 2) at the Intel Core Ultra Global Launch Event from September 3-8.

The LG gram 16 Pro, the first model featuring on-device AI with up to 48 TOPS from its neural processing unit, is set for release at the end of 2024.

This model, aligned with LG’s “Affectionate Intelligence” vision, offers enhanced AI-driven performance, productivity, and battery life.

Intel Evo Edition: Powered by Core Ultra Processors

Many devices featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V processors will be Intel Evo Edition laptops. These laptops are co-engineered with partners to deliver the best AI PC experience by reducing lag, minimizing distractions, and extending battery life.

Availability

Consumer devices featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V processors are available for pre-order now and will be available globally at over 30 retailers starting September 24, 2024, with commercial devices on the Intel vPro platform expected early next year.

All models running the latest version of Windows will receive the Copilot+ PC features as a free update beginning in November 2024.
